Bhubaneswar : Rama Devi Women’s University commenced a vibrant three-day celebration to mark two significant milestones—the 11th Foundation Day of the university and the 125th Birth Anniversary of Maa Rama Devi, the iconic freedom fighter and women’s education pioneer after whom the institution is named. The inaugural programme, held with the active collaboration of the university’s Alumni Association, set an inspiring tone for the commemorative events scheduled throughout the celebration.

The ceremony began with warm participation from students, faculty members, and former students who gathered to honour the university’s legacy and the visionary ideals of Maa Rama Devi. Padma Shri awardee Damyanti Besra graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Reminiscing about her formative years at Rama Devi College, she highlighted how the institution played a pivotal role in shaping her academic and personal journey. She stressed the irreplaceable role of one’s mother tongue in the learning process and remarked that education reaches true fulfilment only when guided by a sincere and dedicated teacher. Her address resonated strongly with the audience, reinforcing the importance of cultural roots in academic growth.

Serving as Guest of Honour, former Vice-President of the Alumni Association, Sudipa Ray, delivered an inspiring message to the students. She encouraged them to imbibe the timeless virtues practiced by Maa Rama Devi—simplicity, humility, and unwavering commitment to service. She noted that these qualities not only build character but also equip young women to contribute meaningfully to society. Her words added depth to the day’s reflections on the life and values of the revered social reformer.

The incharge Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chandi Charan Rath, addressed the gathering with an overview of the university’s growth over the past eleven years, appreciating the contribution of faculty, staff, and alumni in strengthening the institution’s academic standards. He also highlighted the university’s efforts in promoting women’s empowerment through inclusive education and holistic development.

Her welcome address underscored the enduring bond between the institution and its alumnae.

The programme also featured recognition of meritorious students who excelled in various competitions held as part of the Foundation Day celebrations.
