
Bhubaneswar : Odisha is gearing up to welcome the fourth edition of the Odisha Masters 2025, a BWF Tour Super 100 badminton event, scheduled to take place from December 9 to 14 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack. The international tournament is being jointly organised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Association of India (BAI), the Odisha State Badminton Association, and the state’s Sports & Youth Services Department.
At a press conference held at the Kalinga Stadium, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj outlined the preparations and scale of the championship. This year’s event will see participation from athletes representing 22 nations, including India, Finland, Hong Kong China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Israel, Japan, Spain, Egypt, Indonesia, the United States, Australia, England, Thailand, Bulgaria, Chinese Taipei, UAE, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Russia, and Bangladesh.

More than 400 shuttlers will battle it out in five disciplines—Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles—with several world-ranked players expected to join the competition.
In addition to the international tournament, the Minister announced that the 37th Sub-Junior National Badminton Championship will be hosted at Kalinga Stadium from December 1 to 6. The national-level event will feature around 750 young competitors from across India in the Under-15 and Under-17 categories, including 25 promising players from Odisha.
Highlighting Odisha’s increasing prominence in the global sports ecosystem, the Minister recalled the state’s successful hosting of the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze and the Asian Table Tennis Championship in recent years. He said that events like the Odisha Masters further reinforce Odisha’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and expanding its international footprint in sports.
Odisha State Badminton Association President Rajesh Prabhakar Patil expressed pride in bringing another global badminton event to the state, noting that it would serve as strong motivation for upcoming players.
Sports & Youth Services Commissioner-cum-Secretary Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav added that Odisha has built a distinct identity in world sports through consistent organisation of prestigious international tournaments.
At the event, officials also unveiled the official logo of the tournament, while the popular mascot “Olly” made a spirited appearance, lifting the excitement among sports lovers and young athletes present.
