Udaipur : Udaipur is preparing to host one of the grandest destination weddings of the year as Indo-US NRI couple Vamsi Gadiraju and Netra Mantena tie the knot in a celebration that is drawing global attention. The event, which many describe as India’s biggest private wedding after the Ambani extravaganzas, is expected to welcome Donald Trump Jr. along with 126 high-profile guests from nearly 40 countries.
The bride, Netra Mantena, hails from a prominent business family. She is the daughter of Rama Raju Mantena, Chairman and CEO of Ingenious Pharmaceuticals, a company known for its growing footprint in the global pharma industry. The groom, Vamsi Gadiraju, is a US-based professional of Indian origin, and together the couple has planned an opulent celebration showcasing Indian culture, hospitality and luxury.
The multi-day festivities are set against the majestic backdrop of Udaipur’s palaces and lakes. Reports indicate that top celebrities, industrialists, international entrepreneurs and political figures will arrive in the city, reaffirming its status as one of the world’s most sought-after wedding destinations. Massive logistical arrangements, high-end décor themes, lavish cuisine spreads and traditional Rajasthani cultural events have been lined up to welcome the distinguished guests.
The high-profile event coincides with national discussions on India’s growing wedding economy, particularly following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent emphasis on celebrating weddings within the country. Addressing the nation earlier this week, PM Modi spoke about the immense potential of the domestic wedding industry and urged families to prefer “Wed in Bharat” over hosting events abroad.
Modi noted that Indian weddings have increasingly been shifting to locations such as Dubai, Italy, Thailand and Turkey, resulting in a substantial outflow of economic activity. According to the Prime Minister, encouraging families to choose Indian destinations could help bring back ₹1 lakh crore into the Indian economy over time. He further highlighted that the ongoing wedding season alone could generate nearly ₹5 lakh crore in business across sectors, from jewellery and textiles to hotels, catering and event management.
Supporting this national push, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has mapped over 2,000 potential wedding venues across nearly 100 major Indian cities, showcasing the diversity and capability of domestic hospitality locations. From royal palaces in Rajasthan to beaches in Kerala and heritage sites in Telangana, the initiative aims to present India as a comprehensive and competitive wedding hub.
As the Udaipur celebrations of Vamsi Gadiraju and Netra Mantena unfold, the event not only reflects the grandeur of Indian destination weddings but also reinforces the growing global interest in celebrating special moments in India. With the spotlight on high-profile guests and stunning venues, the wedding is expected to significantly boost local tourism and further strengthen India’s image as a world-class luxury wedding destination.
