
Kandhamal: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Sri Binayak Nayak, former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Kuerimandu Gram Panchayat under Phiringia Block, for allegedly siphoning off government funds to the tune of ₹12,87,201.
According to Vigilance officials, the embezzlement relates to State Finance Commission (SFC) funds released to the Gram Panchayat for development works. Nayak is accused of withdrawing and misusing the funds between February and March 2025, without executing any sanctioned projects during the period.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 18/2025) under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following his arrest, the former PEO is being produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.
Vigilance authorities confirmed that further investigation is in progress to uncover additional details and verify the flow of funds.
