Call for Dignified Leadership and a United Vision to Build a Prosperous Odisha by 2036, Says President Droupadi Murmu

Addressing the Odisha Assembly, President Droupadi Murmu reflects on her political roots, celebrates the state’s legacy and progress, and urges MLAs to uphold responsibility, inspire citizens, and work with a ‘Nation First’ commitment.

Bhubaneswar: In a historic and emotionally significant address to the Odisha Legislative Assembly, President Droupadi Murmu urged elected representatives to uphold the highest standards of dignity, dialogue, and public service as they work toward building a prosperous future for the state.

Returning to the Assembly where her own political journey began, the President recalled her early days as a legislator and minister, noting how stepping once again into the House brought back vivid memories of debates, questions, and interactions that shaped her public life. She expressed deep gratitude for the blessings of Lord Jagannath and acknowledged the contributions of former colleagues who played formative roles in her career.

Reflecting on Odisha’s rich civilizational and political heritage, President Murmu highlighted the state’s profound influence on national history—from the moral transformation of Emperor Ashoka after the Kalinga War to Odisha’s maritime glory and its courageous role in the anti-colonial movement. She saluted eminent leaders such as Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab and Biju Patnaik, whose vision and leadership continue to inspire generations.

The President placed special emphasis on the long-standing tradition of women’s empowerment in Odisha. She noted with pride that the state has consistently ensured women’s presence in the Assembly since before independence and celebrated the leadership of the present woman Speaker as a reflection of India’s march toward becoming a developed nation. Women of Odisha, she said, have excelled across sectors and brought national recognition through their achievements.

Commending the 17th Legislative Assembly for maintaining a constructive atmosphere and holding efficient sessions, the President applauded the passage of multiple public welfare legislations. She underscored the importance of maintaining this healthy democratic culture rooted in discussion and cooperation.

President Murmu also praised Odisha’s rapid development across diverse sectors—agriculture, education, health, industrialization, tribal upliftment, housing, and disaster management. With its abundant natural resources, fertile land, mineral wealth, forests, water resources, and skilled population, she said Odisha possesses every advantage needed to emerge as a leading state.

Looking ahead to the state’s centenary in 2036, she called upon all stakeholders to unite in transforming Odisha into a model of prosperity, which in turn would contribute significantly to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Reminding legislators of the immense trust placed in them by the people, the President stressed that their actions and words—both inside and outside the Assembly—have a powerful influence on society. In an era of technology and constant public attention, she advised MLAs to conduct themselves in ways that inspire citizens and strengthen the foundation of a progressive Odisha.

“It is your solemn responsibility to meet the expectations of the people, realize their aspirations, and bring joy to their lives,” she concluded, urging all representatives to work with the spirit of ‘Nation First’ and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to the service of Odisha.
